Sri Lanka PM hopeful justice will be served

                          

Colombo / Islamabad : Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa on Saturday said he and his countrymen were fully confident that Prime Minister Imran Khan will keep to his commitment and justice will be served in Sialkot mob-lynching case.

A Sri Lankan national factory manager in Sialkot was tortured to death and later his body put on fire by angry mob at Wazirabad road, alleging him of committing blasphemy.

“Shocking to see the brutal and fatal attack on Priyantha Diyawadana by extremist mobs in Pakistan” Mahinda Rajapaksa tweeted on Saturday.

“My heart goes out to his wife and family. Sri Lanka and her people are confident that PM Imran Khan will keep up to his commitment and bring all those involved to justice” Sri Lankan Prime Minister further wrote.

An extremist mob brutally murdered Diyawadana, a Sri Lankan Christian alleging him of committing blasphemy. Diyawadana had been working as a factory manager in Sialkot for years, media reports revealed.

Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday termed the incident as ‘horrific vigilant attack’ and said he was overseeing the investigations himself.

“The horrific vigilante attack on factory in Sialkot & the burning alive of Sri Lankan manager is a day of shame for Pakistan. I am overseeing the investigations & let there be no mistake all those responsible will be punished with full severity of the law. Arrests are in progress.” Prime Minister Imran Khan tweeted on Friday.

According to media reports, police officials of Sialkot claimed the deceased was known to be a strict administrator, adding around 110 suspects had been arrested, while raids were being conducted to apprehend the others.

On Saturday, Special Assistant to the Punjab Chief Minister on Information Hasaan Khawar updated the number of arrests to 118, saying that 200 raids had been conducted and that among those detained were 13 primary suspects.

In a press conference in Lahore alongside Punjab IGP Rao Sardar Ali Khan, the special assistant said the police had obtained footage from 160 CCTV cameras and additional video and data sources such as mobile data and call records were also being analysed.
