FM assures Sri Lankan counterpart of fulfilling justice in Sialkot lynching case

Islamabad : Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Saturday telephoned his Sri Lankan counterpart Gamini Lakshman Peiris and discussed with him in detail the probe made into brutal killing of Sri Lankan national in Sialkot Friday.

A Sri Lankan national factory manager in Sialkot was tortured to death and later his body put on fire by angry mob at Wazirabad road, alleging him of committing blasphemy.

“Spoke to my brother FM Gamini Lakshman Peiris of SriLanka and expressed my deep grief and condolences. The Pakistan leadership will ensure all perpetrators will be brought to justice swiftly.” Qureshi said in a tweet Saturday.

Earlier the day, Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa said he and his countrymen were fully confident that Prime Minister Imran Khan will keep to his commitment and justice will be served in Sialkot mob-lynching case.

 “Shocking to see the brutal and fatal attack on Priyantha Diyawadana by extremist mobs in Pakistan” Mahinda Rajapaksa tweeted on Saturday.

“My heart goes out to his wife and family. Sri Lanka and her people are confident that PM Imran Khan will keep up to his commitment and bring all those involved to justice” Sri Lankan Prime Minister further wrote.

An extremist mob brutally murdered Diyawadana, a Sri Lankan Christian alleging him of committing blasphemy. Diyawadana had been working as a factory manager in Sialkot for years, media reports revealed.
