ISLAMABAD: The decision to charge Rana Shamim has been postponed.
The Rana Shamim contempt case was heard, the Attorney General requested to charge all the persons including the former Chief Justice of Gilgit-Baltistan. During the hearing, the Attorney General read out Rana Shamim's miscellaneous application on the order of the court.
According to the request, on December 9, the granddaughter has sent the original statement from London via affidavit courier. It may take three days to receive the documents.
The journalist told the court that Rana Shamim did not stop him from publishing the affidavit. Addressing the journalist, the Chief Justice said, "I have known you for a long time. You have a good reputation. The court will not ask you the source of affidavit but the question here is the credibility of the court and the confidence of the people in it." We will look at this matter in the context of international law. If the document is confidential then should that affidavit still be published?
The Attorney General also read out Rana Shamim's written reply to the show cause notice that if it was intended to insult the judiciary, he would have recorded the affidavit in Pakistan and given it to the media. Rana Shamim should be asked to submit affidavit while journalist and others should be asked to submit affidavit. This case belongs to the accused, the court will fix the date of indictment, will appear as prosecutor.
