The human tragedy in Afghanistan is growing with each passing day

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information Chaudhry Fawad Hussain has said that the human tragedy in Afghanistan is increasing with each passing day. In the cold weather, the people of Afghanistan are facing the worst humanitarian crisis.

Addressing a function hosted by the Saudi Embassy, Hussain said that the OIC Foreign Ministers' Conference on December 19 would focus on the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan. "We are working with other fraternal countries, including Saudi Arabia, to create a mechanism that can help the people of Afghanistan," he said. He said that Pakistan was providing all possible assistance to Afghanistan.

We are supplying 250,000 metric tons of wheat to Afghanistan. He said that Pakistan has abolished duty on 40 items imported from Afghanistan, which would help Afghan businessmen to stand on their own two feet. He said the OIC Foreign Ministers' Meeting would be a primarily non-political meeting focusing solely on humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan.

"We want the world to come together to help Afghanistan. The crisis in Afghanistan could escalate," he said. He said that The Economist in its report last month mentioned the human tragedy inside Afghanistan which could be bigger than Yemen, Syria and Iraq. In such a situation, we must focus on helping the people of Afghanistan. "We can talk about politics later, but we can't delay talking about the human tragedy in Afghanistan," he said.

He said that Prime Minister Imran Khan has always spoken of peace in Afghanistan and our government is working for peace in Afghanistan. He said that OIC Foreign Ministers Conference would be Pakistan's largest foreign affairs event since 1980. He said that Foreign Ministers of 27 countries would participate in the OIC Foreign Ministers Conference while 84 countries would be represented.

He said that our fraternal relations with Saudi Arabia have been established since before the establishment of Pakistan. He said that when King Abdul Aziz of Saudi Arabia came to Karachi in 1946, he was received by the leadership of All India Muslim League including the late MAH Isfahani.
