The system is being made more efficient for resolving taxpayers' grievances: Federal Tax Ombudsman

Lahore: Federal Tax Ombudsman Dr Asif Mehmood Jah has said that the system is being made more efficient and effective for immediate redressal of taxpayers' grievances.

To facilitate the business community, four new regional offices have been set up in Sialkot, Sargodha, Abbottabad and Sukkur, while a facilitation desk will be set up in the Lahore Chamber soon. He was addressing a meeting at Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Lahore Chamber President Mian Noman Kabir, Senior Vice President Mian Rehman Aziz Chan and Vice President Haris Atiq also spoke on the occasion. Dr. Asif Mehmood Jah A portal is being launched, a helpline is being set up and people can send their complaints through WhatsApp.

 He said that the grievance redressal system was being linked with VBook. He did not say that a help desk would be set up in Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry soon while a facility desk would be set up at Lahore Airport. It has already been set up. He said that action was being taken against top officials to make matters transparent. He said that the purpose of the agency is to provide convenience to the taxpayers.

Lahore Chamber President Mian Noman Kabir said that the business community was well aware of the importance of the Federal Tax Ombudsman in redressing the grievances of tax evaders and any injustice done to the taxpayers by the Federal Board of Revenue. He said the federal tax ombudsman could play a key role in building trust between the tax authorities and the business community. He said that most of the cases in the office of the Federal Tax Ombudsman were related to errors in the determination of refunds and delay in payment of refunds.

In this regard, in the Federal Budget 2021-22, the government had announced the introduction of a central automated system for refunds which would not require application and verification, speeding up the implementation of this system so that tax refunds to traders It will also reduce the burden on the Federal Tax Ombudsman's office.

He added that businesses also face problems with VBook and Pral systems. "People need to be made aware of the federal tax ombudsman's online system to encourage taxpayers to take advantage of it," he said. He said that it was imperative to implement the decisions of the Federal Tax Ombudsman's Office expeditiously and to make their enforcement procedures robust and effective. They use delaying tactics when summoned in cases related to, this issue should be resolved.

He said consulting with senior tax lawyers and advisers on issues related to the business community can be very helpful. He assured the Federal Tax Ombudsman of all possible cooperation for organizing seminars and awareness sessions by the Lahore Chamber.

 Members of Lahore Chamber Executive Committee Naeem Hanif, Saleem Asghar Bhatti, Shehzad Butt, Mian Atiq-ur-Rehman, Malik Riaz Iqbal, Mardan Ali Zaidi, former Vice Presidents Shafqat and Kashif Anwar were also present on the occasion.
