Attack on military base in Niger kills more than 100

 Lagos: At least 78 militants and at least 29 soldiers have been killed in a suspected insurgent attack on a military base in the West African crisis state of Niger.

According to the foreign news agency, a statement issued by Niger said that hundreds of assailants on motorcycles attacked a military base in the Talabari area.

It is a "G5 coastal military base" from which forces from Mauritania, Niger, Chad, Mali and Burkina Faso are fighting alongside coastal rebels. More than 100 people, including 78 assailants and about 29 soldiers, were killed and several others were injured in the clashes.

No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.
